Northside Hospital offers state-of-the-art
Emergency Services at each of its hospitals in Atlanta and Forsyth,
and both were designated as Nationally Accredited Chest Pain
Centers in 2011. We are committed to delivering high-quality,
compassionate care in a timely manner.
Often referred to as the hospital’s ‘‘front
door,’’ the emergency facilities provide emergency
care to any medical, surgical or obstetrical patient.
The majority of emergency service patients are
treated and discharged. However, should a patient require hospital
admission or a surgical procedure, each hospital offers access
to a comprehensive array of state-of-the-art support services.
Each of Northside's state-of-the-art emergency facilities features:

- HealthExpress/Fast Track - a minor illness and injury
- A Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) outpatient observation

- Streamlined, bedside admissions
- Bedside tests (decreases the need for patient transport)
- Board-certified emergency medicine physicians available
24-hours a day

Emergency care for urgent needs such as minor
illness or injury may be treated in Northside Hospital's "health
area. This area is staffed by highly qualified and trained nurse
practitioners and physician assistants employed by Northside
Emergency Associiates who are overseen
by one of the attending emergency department physicians on duty.

25,000 square foot Level Two Emergency Department (ED) ranks
number one in metro Atlanta in overall patient satisfaction,
treating more than 51,000 patients in 2010. The ED has 28 treatment
rooms, plus five health express rooms.
The ED at Northside Hospital-Forsyth, with 31 beds, treated 51,400+ patients
in 2010. Completed in 2004, the new ED was designed utilizing a tranquil
environment yet incorporating the latest in cutting-edge technology and
equipment and along with Northside's highly educated and trained staff, provides
patients with the best overall care possible.
Presently there are 27 acute beds and 5 health express beds in the Emergency Department. There are 84 inpatient beds and 30 observation beds in the main hospital. The ED sees approximately 44,000 patients/year and is scheduled to open a new hospital in December 2016.
